Audi E-tron Showcased at Detroit

Audi have recently showcased their new e-tron system at the Detroit Motor Show. The new compact e-tron package is a compact sports car that features a totally electric drive system. The two seater sports vehicle represents a brand new concept and design from Audi and the incredibly low weight of the vehicle helps it attain surprisingly high levels of performance. It weighs just 1,350 kg and features a pair of high power torque units driving the rear wheels. The 0-62 mph speed is just 5.9 seconds and best of all the e-tron has a range of 155 miles.

The Audi e-tron concept also features a top speed of 124 mph and some highly impressive technology in order to vary the torque to the wheels as required. This technique has become known as "torque vectoring" and it offers excellent traction and unsurpassed control. Many who have driven this new Audi e-tron concept have described it as being like driving a go kart; rapid acceleration coupled with incredible agility and handling.

The lithium ion batteries of the Audi e-tron are situated in the center of the vehicle in order to keep the center of gravity as neutral as possible. The advertised 155 miles are regular miles driven properly as well; these are not "conservative" miles driven at lower speeds. As previously with the first e-tron concept car shown in Frankfurt, Audi again bases all components in this electric vehicle on an integral concept with many revolutionary details: a heat pump as an efficient means of heating up and maintaining the interior temperature. The drive system, power electronics and battery have innovative thermal management – crucial for maintaining a high operating range coupled with outstanding interior comfort.
